Review - Painter's Rapture by Drake LaMarque

Note: This series is very much designed to be read in order. If you haven't read the first three books, then this review may contain spoilers. The Gentleman's Bounty series comes to a conclusion as Cedric, along with his three lovers and the rest of the crew of the Devil's Whore, meet up with the crew of the Grey Kelpie from the His Piratical Harem series to defeat the cult seeking to use Cedric to open a gateway that would allow an ancient god to entire our world, and bring about its destruction.

Earth, or more precisely, humanity, is headed for disaster. Seeing little chance that things will change, a mysterious consortium of nations and rich individuals decides to secretly build a colony on Mars, so that if the worst happens on Earth, humanity will survive. Two married scientists are hired to manage the project. They, and the team they assemble, have to come up with answers to some tough questions about how to ensure a human colony, which they have to assume will be cut off from Earth, can be viable.

Review - Waiting for Ru by Barbara Elsborg

Kindly note: If you haven't read some of the earlier books of this series, this review contains spoilers about some of the events in them. Ruari – “Ru” – is still adjusting to his new reality. Kidnapped by his aunt and uncle when he was eight years old, he was told his parents and brother were dead, and kept in isolation so he couldn't find out differently. In the second book of this series, Long Way Back, Ru found out that his family wasn't dead, and that his brother had been imprisoned for Ru's murder.

Review - The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Shrefer

Ambrose wakes up on board his ship, and is told by the craft's AI that he was injured during the launch and has been in a coma. He remembers all his training for this special mission to rescue his sister, who was sent to see if Saturn's moon Titan could be colonized, but he doesn't remember getting on board the ship or the accident that apparently injured him. There's something else that's concerning: Ambrose's ship has been joined to another craft, that of his country's primary competitor, and that ship is occupied by another spacefarer, Kodiak.

Earth has been invaded by a species from another planet, who take some of the humans as “pets” that are often badly abused. To escape becoming a pet himself, and protect his mother, Tom takes her to a cabin in the woods where the live almost entirely off the grid. Over time, Tom discovers and helps some pets that manage to escape their masters, becoming part of a sort of underground railroad for people running from enslavement.
Review - Fate & Fortune by Maz Maddox

The circus has come to Stallion Ridge, and with it is Victor, a phoenix shifter who tells fortunes and does slight-of-hand tricks. Sky is irresistibly drawn to the mysterious man, but doesn't want to get close for fear of being hurt. He's also concerned about repeating nightmares that seem to foretell a grim future for the town and especially the lawmen he calls family. Sky has been something of a fixture in most of the stories in this series, although he has so far remained something of a mystery.
Review - Four Ever by Sloane Kennedy

Zak and Killian have been together for seven years, and are deeply in love with each other, but the last few years have been tough, with each of them feeling guilt over wrongs they think they've inflicted on their partner, but unable to talk it through. The two are still devoted to the ragtag menagerie of rescued animals they've collected over the years. However, when nurse Zak brings home a mute homeless young man from the hospital, who is shortly joined by his injured step-brother, the dynamic of their relationship seems to change.

Note: The author kindly offered an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review. You can purchase this release starting October 14, 2021. Another month has passed since Damiskos came to visit his lover Varazda in Saffron Alley. He really doesn't want to go home to Pheme, but knows he will need to at some point, at least to move out of his lodgings and collect his horse.

Review - Brave Boy by K.M. Neuhold
My rating:
Emerson dreams of having a Daddy to take of him. Unfortunately, he's extremely shy, due in large part to a stutter that gets worse when he's nervous, and he always gets really nervous Kiernan. The business partner of Sterling's Daddy is everything that Emerson could want in a Daddy, but he can barely speak in front of the big man. Sterling suggests that Emerson try chatting up potential daddies online to build up his confidence.

Review - Heart of Ice by Angello Adrien
My rating:
Valentino is still in a sort of self imposed isolation after his fight with the demon manticore, in which he revealed his true nature to those closest to him. But he can't cut himself off forever, and the impending visit by vampire royals combined with the mysterious death of a high society young woman means that Valentino must resume his duties as both a detective and consort to the Guardian Aladar.
