Review - Alien Heart by Alex Timothy
My rating:
Sorry, but this is one of those books that's hard to review without a few minor spoilers. You have been warned. Earth's first alien contact is with a species that becomes known as the “Hush”, who come from a planet of mostly ice and have technology far more advanced than humans. Initially friendly, the Hush exchange come of their tech for farm produce. But then they begin to see humans as stupid and short-sighted for their lack of care for the environment they're blessed with.

Review - Davo by N.R. Walker
My rating:
When academic researcher Fergus lands in a remote mining camp in the far reaches of Western Australia, he's expecting a change of scenery, but he's totally unprepared for the extreme conditions of the desert, as well as the quirky collection of permanent residents that call the town home. The biggest surprise of all is Davo. The muscular mechanical supervisor has a sunny disposition with a totally disarming smile, and likes to wear skirts.

Review - There Will Be Aliens by Holly Day
My rating:
Carlo and his best friend Grace are having drinks, commiserating over the loss of Carlo's cheating boyfriend. They've had a bit too much to drink, and on their way home they're kidnapped by aliens along with several other earth women. Captain Zenon and his crew have been ordered to bring back some earth women to try and solve their race's reproductive issues. The male, Carlo, isn't necessary but there's something about the man that “Zen” can't resist, even though it makes him uncomfortable.
Review - King's Bane by J.C. Owens
My rating:
Part of Vaden just wants to give up and die. He has survived chained up in a dark dungeon long than many of the other captives, kidnapped as part of a mad plot to lure pirate captains to their death. In Vaden's case, the target is his sister, who has gone against the family and joined the brotherhood of pirates. But also, perhaps, the kidnapper and his master are after Vaden's brother, an admiral.
Review - Sanctity by Toshi Drake
My rating:
Jax Trest is the chief engineer on board the Padua, so when the ship's mechanique Michael Collins gets stranded on an abandoned ship, it's Jax's job to try and support the squid-like ship's heart, even though humans can't bond with the hearts, in theory. When Collins is finally rescued and reunited with the heart, the loss of the connection Jax had with it sends him into a spiraling depression, made more difficult by the belief that he can't explain the problem to anyone.

Review - The Monk by Megan Derr
My rating:
Taniel feels like he has always lived his life in the shadows. Growing up with his adopted family, he seemed to be the shadow of his older brother Kohar, who also became a mage. Then, at the monastery, he became the shadow of the spectacularly beautiful monk Vosgi, whose obsession with dark magic finally forced Taniel to turn him in, and get both of them kicked out of the monastery.
Review - Sunsets & Showdowns by Maz Maddox
My rating:
Kindly note that the books in this series are very much meant to be read in order. If you haven't read the previous books of the series, this review may contain some spoilers. Stallion Ridge's richest resident didn't get where he is by playing by the rules. If the townsfolk knew some of the things he had done, they wouldn't be so welcoming despite all of the business he has bought to the growing city.
Review - The Forester by Blaine D. Arden
My rating:
A beloved elf is found strangled in the forest, and it's truth-seeker Kelnaht's job to find out who is responsible. Fingers are already pointing at the shunned forester, Taruif, but there's no evidence of the elf's guilt and Kelnaht doesn't want to believe it. He's been harboring feelings towards the forester for a while, but that's not something he can admit to anyone, since even talking to the elf is a crime.
Review - Donum - The Gift by Maxime Jaz
My rating:
General of the Roman army and nephew of the emperor Marius is returning to Rome after a long campaign. At camp the night before reaching home, he is invited to dinner at the home of the local noble. It's not something he wants to do, but can't refuse. The noble turns out to have a penchant for young boys and presents his bed slave Kyle to Marius for the night.

Review - The Art of Boytoy Maintenance by H Birchwood, Key Dyson & Raymond Roach
My rating:
Rich continues to settle into life aboard the Reliant, a life far more “normal” than his time on his previous posting aboard the ship from hell. One of the little pleasures of his new existence is the occasional visit from Liam, a very much friends-with-benefits relationship. On one of these visits, Liam floats the idea of being Rich's “toy” for the day. Rich can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, with Liam, who Rich already knows has an almost insatiable sexual appetite.
