The guys are taking a short vacation together, just the four of them. It should give them some time to relax and maybe work out the shifting boundaries of their relationship. It seems that at least some of them need more than they’re getting from their “secondary partners” but they don’t want to push for more than the other is willing to give. First, though, they have to survive whatever craziness Kevin instigates.
This latest installment of the long-running Loving series is a relatively drama-free slice of life about the four men, two couples, who have become more than friends. You need to have read the previous books of the series already to know what’s going on in this story. You could be forgiven for forgetting about the complicated past that Kevin and Jeremy share, as it’s not mentioned at all. The pair seem to be almost free from any worries that their past might catch up to them.
The four men may not have much to worry about, but that’s not going to stop Jeremy. Worrying is his default setting, even if it seems their mother is no longer a threat to his and Kevin’s happiness. Jeremy’s top priority is, as always, taking care of Kevin, but while the younger man is equally devoted to Jeremy and sexually adventurous, there are certain needs Kevin isn’t comfortable doing, and Jeremy doesn’t have the vocabulary to understand what he needs.
Fortunately, the two imps Kevin and Bryan seem to know Jeremy needs more time with Maddox, even if Jeremy can’t vocalize it. Bryan continues to confuse his partners, especially Kevin. Continuing an evolution that started in the previous book, the extremely shy young man is becoming increasingly confident in voicing what he wants from Kevin and Jeremy. Although a lot of the narration is from Kevin’s point of view, the bratty young man is more observer than instigator in this story. There’s nothing Kevin likes more than pushing Bryan’s buttons, but in a theme that started in Too Close to Resist, Bryan’s increased confidence means Kevin is no longer sure where those buttons are.
