Jeremy and Kevin are now living in the duplex the purchased, which they share with their best friends Maddox and Bryan. The four are more than just friends. They consider themselves family and both couples are part of the kink community. Living so close together means all four men are very aware of the intimate relationships each of them shares with their partner. With that knowledge comes some curiosity, but exploring those thoughts could cost them their friendship. Is it worth the risk?
This third compendium of the Loving series combines the novellas originally published as books six to nine. These books are very tightly coupled together, so I think they read much better in this collection rather than individually. The drama in this set shifts from the external threat of Kevin and Jeremy’s parents to the internal questions about the relationships between the four men. The men value their friendship too much to risk breaking it, but still can’t deny being attracted to each other. They seem to be drifting into a form of polyamory, but these stories are just the start of that process.
We get bits of the story from all four men this time, but the change in point of view remains chapter by chapter, so you know who is telling the story all the time. The stories are still centered on Jeremy and Kevin. Jeremy carries the world on his shoulders, keeping Kevin safe, happy and providing a roof over their heads while his brother is still in school. It isn’t until Maddox asks an unusual favor that Jeremy realizes he needs to relieve some of the stress he puts on himself.
Kevin remains the family’s wild card. Even when Jeremy and Maddox work together, they can never be quite sure what the slightly hyperactive young man will get up to. Extroverted Kevin seems to take pleasure in teasing extremely shy Bryan. He’s not trying to be mean, he’s just trying to bring the man he considers a brother out of his shell. The problem is, it can be very hard to tell how far to push without “breaking” Bryan.
