Owen wakes up one morning alone in bed. That’s not unusual, since his boyfriend usually rises early for work. Only, Owen notices that there’s no sign of Matteo around the condo. It’s like he was never there. Things really get confusing when Owen realizes than an entire year is missing from his memory. Seeking answers, Owen sets about finding Matteo, who is apparently now his ex-boyfriend. Why did they break up, and is there any chance they can re-connect?

“Forget and Forgive” is set in the same fantasy world as A Single Soul by the same author. It’s an alternate universe where faeries, magic, and mythical creatures like dragons are real, but otherwise the setting is a contemporary large American city. It’s the magic aspect, in particular, that’s leveraged in this story to erase a year in the life of Owen, sending him on a journey to find out what was so bad it made him want to forget.

The point of view alternates between Owen and his ex, Matteo. Owen is a really interesting character to imagine yourself in his place. How far would go to forget a painful breakup? Once you’re forced to face the uncomfortable truth, again, will you react differently?

You probably wouldn’t want to be in Matteo’s shoes. He made a terrible mistake and has lived with the recriminations for a year. A second chance with Owen is more than he could have ever hoped for, but what if it leads to a second rejection?

“Forget & Forgive” is available from Smashwords or Amazon (commissionable link).
