Spence has been living on the streets for six months. He’s not exactly homeless, Spence walked away from his privileged life with rich parents who haven’t even realized he is gone. He is surviving, barely, when he has an encounter with a sexual predator who like to prey on homeless gay boys who have no legal recourse. Although Spence probably doesn’t really need rescuing, Hunter intercedes with the predator, who he has been trying to corner.

They’re all shifters; Dillon is a bear, Kevin and his cousin Jerry are wolves, and Brad is a fox; but it isn’t easy for them since they lost or were forced out of their family groups before they learned how to use and control their powers.

In this collection of stories featuring Gaius, Tiberius, Achilles and other characters from the previous two books of the series, we learn a bit more about Gaius’ past as well as glimpses of the future after the end of Gaius and Achilles. The first story, which gives the collection its name, recounts how Gaius and Tiberius first met, while later ones tell us about Achilles’ life with Gaius after being freed.

Things get off to a rocky start when Shax bumps into an old flame, who also happens to be a spy. Soon after, he hears about a fantastical, yet apparently abandoned, experimental house that seems to have the ability to make dreams come true, or at least appear to.
Review - Becoming Cherished by Sara York
My rating:
Scotty tries to exorcise the demons of his past by being a Dom. He believes that being in control is the key to not being hurt again. He also tries to keep his relationships with his subs at arms length, because letting them get too close can also lead to disappointment. Wesley is young and inexperienced, and he challenges almost everything Scotty has done to protect himself. At first Scotty tries to bring Wesley into the lifestyle, and the younger man seems willing in the beginning, but then events overtake both men and threatens their budding relationship.

Policeman Kip is on patrol one night when he encounters Jos and his little brother Isaac on the streets. The orphans became homeless when he lost his job and an unscrupulous landlord kicked him out of their apartment. After a second encounter with Jos, Kip takes pity on the young man and invites Isaac and Jos to stay with him. It isn’t long before the two men both feel a powerful attraction to each other.

In this vision of a possible not-to-distant future, the Eidolon are a genetically engineered race of super-humans, bred by their super-computer master with a thirst for conquest and domination. The Eidolon and their robot army have been locked in a war with the humans for many years. The war is draining resources on both sides, with the Eidolon running low on raw materials, and the humans losing hundreds of soldiers in every battle.

It’s a not-so-guilty not-so-secret that I have a penchant for quirky titles. It probably started with Dwarf Rapes Nun; Flees in UFO/a Novel of Journalism, and then there was The Aerodynamics of Pork, which introduced me to a writer who went on to give us several more great reads. So, it was almost a given that I would read “Love for the Cold-Blooded…” even before knowing what it was about. Fortunately, my little weakness didn’t let me down.

Review - Games of Rome by J.P. Kenwood

This second book of the five-part Dominus series picks up exactly where the first installment left of: with the death of Gaius’ old friend, and sometimes lover, Lucius. The mystery of who killed Lucius, and why, is a major theme of this book, although the relationship between Gaius and Allerix remains the core of the story. Allerix seems resigned to his fate as Gaius’ slave, although he still plots his revenge against the Roman emperor, and Dominus takes steps to protect his slave’s true identity, a secret that could mean death for both of them if it becomes known.
