Review - Sunsets & Showdowns by Maz Maddox
My rating:
Kindly note that the books in this series are very much meant to be read in order. If you haven't read the previous books of the series, this review may contain some spoilers. Stallion Ridge's richest resident didn't get where he is by playing by the rules. If the townsfolk knew some of the things he had done, they wouldn't be so welcoming despite all of the business he has bought to the growing city.

Review - Fate & Fortune by Maz Maddox
My rating:
The circus has come to Stallion Ridge, and with it is Victor, a phoenix shifter who tells fortunes and does slight-of-hand tricks. Sky is irresistibly drawn to the mysterious man, but doesn't want to get close for fear of being hurt. He's also concerned about repeating nightmares that seem to foretell a grim future for the town and especially the lawmen he calls family. Sky has been something of a fixture in most of the stories in this series, although he has so far remained something of a mystery.

Review - Runes, Ruin & Redemption by Maz Maddox
My rating:
Town doctor Elliot has left Stallion Ridge along with Lucas to search for Sebastian, their friend who fled the town after a drunken run-in with sheriff Cal. They do manage to find him, but Seb has gotten involved with a group of swamp dwellers who need his help, and there are some vigilantes hot on his trail looking for retribution over his war activities. The three, and a few friends they picked up along the way, will have to work together to get Sebastian back to Stallion Ridge.

Review - Rocks & Railways by Maz Maddox
My rating:
Mack has always been very comfortable playing the solid backup to Sheriff Calhoun, but when Cal is wounded chasing after some bandits, it's time for Mack to step in and take responsibility while the centaur recuperates. Of course, that's when everything goes sideways in town. The main thing causing a stir is the discovery of a living statue buried in the plateau the new railroad is trying to cut a tunnel through.

Review - Suspects and Scales by Maz Maddox
My rating:
Note: This third book of the series is a direct sequel to the second, so if you haven’t read the previous book, be prepared for spoilers. As you’ll know from the cliff-hang-ey ending of Claw Marks and Card Games, Deputy Cody has just found his friend Wade murdered. Who would kill the gentle Iara (merman)? That’s what Cody is determined to find out, but things get complicated when Wade’s mother shows up, with her devoted assassin in tow.

Review - Claw Marks and Card Games by Maz Maddox
My rating:
Note: This second book of the series is a direct sequel to the first, so if you haven’t read the previous book, be prepared for spoilers. The cards are being good to Cooper tonight, and hopefully he’ll make enough money off the game to pay down his huge gambling debt. Unfortunately, although the game goes his way, one of his opponents isn’t too happy about losing and pulls a gun. It’s a tense few moments until a tall stranger dressed in black intervenes on Cooper’s behalf.

Review - Heartaches & Hoofbeats by Maz Maddox
My rating:
Desperate to make money to help pay off his brother’s gambling debts, Jesse joins the “iron bandits” gang of train robbers. They’re a ruthless bunch, but once he falls in with them, Jesse is trapped. The gang is just about to pull off another heist when they’re intercepted by a group of lawmen lead by the centaur sheriff of Stallion Ridge. The rest of the outlaws escape, but Jesse is captured and hauled off to the jail in Stallion Ridge, where he seems destined to the gallows.

Review - The Celestial
My rating:
This review originally appeared on Speak Its Name. As “The Celestial” opens, Todd is working his claim in the mountains near Truckee, about 90 miles northeast of Sacramento. It’s about 20 years after the California gold rush started, but there are still a lot of men like Todd staking claims and hoping to strike it rich. Egged on by his irascible uncle, who was invalided in the civil war, Todd has stole away in the night, leaving his mother to care for her brother on their tumble-down farm near Sacramento.

Review - Three Men and a Bounty
My rating:
This review originally appeared on BDSM Book Reviews. Well, partner, what ya got here is a tale of the old west, about three men who find they have a right powerful hankering for each other. As if a menage wasn’t complicated enough, one of the men is a US Marshall, and a former slave. In the post civil war period, that’s a big complication. But wait, the author apparently thought, let’s make it even more complicated.
