Review - From Top to Bottom by Kevin Klehr

My rating:

Dedicated top Tony is curious about bottoming. What’s a modern top to do? Form a support group of other tops who want to give things a try from the other side, of course. “From Top to Bottom” is a rather tongue-in-cheek erotic short novellete. There’s plenty of hot scenes and humor to help cover up the rather preposterous plot set-up. The characters are engaging if not very deeply developed. Tony and his new buddy Butch are the most well drawn characters, while the rest are just set pieces.

Review - Counterbalance by Aidan Wayne

My rating:

John leads a settled life as the head rigger for an acrobatic troupe based in Canada. Disfigured in a hate crime when he was a teenager, he is used to being avoided and left to get on with his work of figuring out how to stage the troupe’s daring performances safely. But things change when a new group of acrobats from China arrives for the up-coming season. One of them, Bao, seems fascinated rather than repulsed by John’s looks, and seeks him out at every opportunity.

Review - Stealing His Dangling Jewels by James Cox

My rating:

This review originally appeared on the BDSM Book Reviews site. Phoenix is in dire need of money. A lot of money. It’s not for himself, he wants to get his mother into rehab, although it probably won’t do her any good. Phoenix reads about Lucas, a very rich man, thanks to a lottery winning, with his own private island and a genital piercing sporting sapphires and diamonds that has to be worth several thousand dollars.

Review - If I Were Fire by Heloise West

My rating:

Kindly note: a proof copy of this book was supplied by the author in exchange for a review. A world-weary adventuring count trying to salvage his family estate, a bad boy who wants to be good, a local gangster, and a search for hidden treasure. All this is packed into this very short novelette, running less than 60 pages. Salvesto is the rather down-on-his-luck count. He has returned to Siena upon the death of his father, hoping that the acts which forced him into exile have been forgotten.

Review - Stay With Me by A.L. Lamb

My rating:

Curtis is a thirty-something bear-ish fellow who works in a bank. One day, on a lunch break, he spots a waiter in a local Asian restaurant. The younger man, Joseph, fascinates Curtis and he returns repeatedly to the restaurant just to see him. He can tell that Joseph is troubled, but it takes him a while to strike up a conversation, and even longer to ask Joseph out on date.

Review - Behind the Velvet Curtain by Matt Converse

My rating:

Like many a young gay man before him, Michael escapes his midwestern town, comes to San Francisco, and reinvents himself. He joins a gym, works on his body and his skin, and eventually comes to think of himself as sexy. Loving music and dance, on a lark he tries out for a job as a stripper, and gets it. Using the stage name Matt Jaxx, he really enjoys his work, and becomes popular with both the crowd and the theater management.

Review - Art of the Heart by Dan Skinner

My rating:

It isn’t easy for Zac, coming of age in a small Missouri town in the 1960s. People think he’s slow. That’s not true, but he would rather they thought that than know the truth. While the other boys are discovering the charms of the opposite sex, Zac realizes he has it bad for a slightly older neighbor boy, Rory. Zac escapes into his own world of drawings and fantasies. “Art of the Heart” is a bittersweet coming of age story.

Review - Ridden Hard

My rating:

Everyone lies on their resume, and aspiring actor Jamie is no different. He lists horse riding among his talents, although the last time he was on a horse was when he was a child, and it was a donkey. When he lands a prize role in a film based on Arthurian legends, he’s hoping he can just bluff his way through, but his lack of skill is instantly obvious to everyone, especially the film’s horse trainer Andrej.

Review - Virgin Territory

My rating:

The blurb for this short novelette sets it up rather nicely: Danny may be a virgin, but that’s not all he is… When a fellow dom points Aaron in the direction of the new guy visiting in their local leather bar, there are a lot of things that draw him to Danny. One of those things is the rumor that Danny is a virgin in terms of leather, guy-on-guy action, and even in so far as his experience with girls.
