Tully and Jeremiah are dealing with the aftermath of the cyclone that heavily damaged much of Darwin. Jeremiah’s office is in ruins, so there’s not a lot for him to do, but the head office wants him to visit a remote island where another weather station has also gone offline. It seems like a great opportunity for the two men to have another adventure, alone on a deserted island.
The Storm Boys get one final outing in this third and final installment of the series. You’ll definitely want to have read the first two books before this one. It all starts out okay, despite coping with the damage. There are several laugh-out-loud moments in the first half. Things don’t turn out as expected during the visit to the isolated weather station. It puts everything the men have worked for at risk and forces both of them, but especially Jeremiah, to re-think everything.
Jeremiah gets put through the wringer in this story. Events force him to face his past and the traumatic events that set him on the path of becoming a fulminologist. There are some very dramatic moments, but still some humor to break the darkness.
Tully gets his own epiphany by way of Jeremiah’s experience. The happy-go-lucky man isn’t quite as shallow as he sometimes seems.
