Jay is mostly happy running his family's resort in the mountains of Montana. He just wishes his father would leave him alone and let him get on with his life. But the son of a conservative senator can't be gay, so Jay has to put up with a sham fiance that he will eventually have to marry. What Jay really wants is a dominant man he can give control to and trust to take care of him so he can forget about his responsibilities for a while. Eric is on his way to start a new job as head of security at a resort. It's a big change for the former cop, but it's one he is looking forward to. He doesn't expect to meet a young man whose submissive drive seems to match perfectly with his dominant desires. What will happen when Eric finds out the young man is his new boss?
“For the Long Run” is a high-heat kinky romance with just a dash of horror thrown in. The drama is provided by the string of murders that are happening around the resort. The relationship between Eric and Jay seems to develop at a breakneck speed. The chemistry between the two is incredible.
The point of view alternates between Eric and Jay. Jay is a pleasantly different kind of submissive. He is not some helpless twink who needs a guiding hand in his life. He has a demanding job with a lot of responsibility. Jay appreciates the ability to forget all that and let someone take charge. Someone who will take care of his needs.
Eric fits more into the classic dominant stereotype. Like so many fictional doms, he is a bit too good to be true but not unbelievable. Making him an ex-policeman adds to the realism of his character.
The horror angle is not quite as well developed as you might hope. The “monster” killing men around the resort is the main driver of the plot, but it seems almost forgotten at times.
