Ethan and Cam are very much in love and have been in a committed relationship for a year. There’s just one problem: They both have strong submissive desires — that’s how they met, in a BDSM club in New York — and neither one of them has enough of a dominant streak to give the other the kind of emotional high they get from submitting. They’ve made do participating in sexless scenes with wannabe Doms at different clubs, but for Ethan, at least, it isn’t quite satisfying his submissive urges. When Ethan meets Dom Andrew, he seems like the ‘real deal’ but fears forming an emotional connection with Andrew might ruin what he has with Cam.

“Submission Times Two” takes on the whole hetero-normative notion that one, and only one, person is supposed to be enough to satisfy all our emotional needs from a partner. It may be true enough for a lot of people, but that doesn’t mean it’s the case for everyone, or even most people. Ethan and Cam may be hard core kinksters, but their struggle in this story is largely due to their perceived need for their relationship to fit into the “vanilla” world’s norms.

This is not to say that this is a ‘political’ story. It is, for the most part, a kinky romance. It’s just that these issues strongly underlay the book. The characters are relatively well defined and believable. As is often the case in these kinds of stories, the subs are a little too perfect, and the Dom a little too good to be true, but in most other respects these are realistic men that you can empathize with.

The scenes between the three men are varied and hot. Some of them will not be to everyone’s taste, but that’s the good thing about having a variety of scenes. There are a few places where the narrative seems to read like “this is how to be a good Dom” but it’s never quite overt enough to distract from the story.

“Submission Times Two” is available from Amazon.
