Blaine grew up on a farm and helps his parents run the produce stand. In his spare time, he and his friends are ghost hunters. The team needs a new tech person after their old one moved away, and the leader, Jason, finds Flynn. When Blaine and Flynn meet, the sparks fly almost from the start, but is it real or some weird effect of the case they’re working on involving two lovers who died in the local, now abandoned, hospital?

“The Supers” spins an old-fashioned ghost story in a contemporary setting. If you’ve seen just a clip or a promo for any of the current crop of ghost hunting reality shows, you’ll recognize all the gear and jargon Blaine and his friends use trying to document evidence of paranormal activities. Of course, ghosts don’t play by any rules, and Blaine finds himself at the center of some very unwanted attention.

Blaine describes himself as a bit of a hippy and that fits the impression we get of someone who is a bit of a free spirit. While he may believe in ghosts, Blaine is otherwise a very down to earth young man. It’s easy to see why he is the team’s “front man.”

Although Flynn is the catalyst that sets all the events of the story in motion, we don’t get to know a lot about his background, although there’s enough to understand why there’s not more. The narration point of view switches between Flynn and Blaine, but the two are almost always together from very early in the book. Seeing the way Flynn takes care of Blaine and tries to protect him tells us just about all we need to know about him.
