Adam is settling into his role as the Page of Swords. For now, it’s a quiet life, for a change. He’s still living in his brother Bobby’s basement. His boyfriend Vic stays the night sometimes, since he has moved back in with his mother while learning the chef trade. The two need to get their own place, but they don’t earn much, and Adam isn’t sure he’s ready for that. He’s been on his own for too long. The relative peace is disturbed when Bobby’s dead wife shows up at the door. The woman is very much alive, and definitely who she appears to be. Adam still has vivid memories of killing her when he vanquished the demon that possessed her.
“Redneck Revenant” is the unexpected fourth book in the Adam Binder series. It picks up the story not only after the last book in that series but also references people and events of Rogue Community College. So, you need to have read all the books to know what is going on. The main plot for this story harks back to the very first book of the series, White Trash Warlock, where an evil spirit possessed Adam’s sister-in-law Annie.
The story this time revolves completely around Adam. Things may be quiet as the story starts, but Adam is having trouble adjusting to life now that he has reconciled with his family and has a boyfriend. He’s been on his own for so long, it’s hard to get used to having a family and relying on other people, and thinking about their welfare before he risks his life to save the world.
Besides Adam, there’s now quite a large cast of characters. There’s Adam’s boyfriend Vic and his family, Adam’s brother Bobby, and of course, the elven King of Swords and his sister. Isaac Frost, from “Rogue Community College”, also makes an appearance and there are a couple of new characters that may play roles in future books. That’s why you need to read all the books set in this fantasy world. Each of these characters has their own personality as well as their own agenda.
