Note, this book is part of a series meant to be read in order. This review of the second book in the set may contain spoilers about the first installment.

Cassius and Morgan are trying to come to terms with the realization they are both demigods, as well as their undeniable attraction to each other. The pair are also working together at Argonaut as part of Morgan’s team, looking into crimes involving supernaturals. The latest case has the team looking into a series of bank break-ins that seem to involve magic users. There are also disturbing reports of ghouls in the city. It all starts to point to the same nemesis Argonaut faced before. Meanwhile, the daughter of the magician’s guild, Hexa, faces unknown forces chasing her after she runs away from home.

This book is a direct sequel to Fractured Souls, so you will want to have read that story before this one. The large cast of secondary characters returns in this installment, joined by a few new ones that are likely to play roles in future books.

Most of the focus remains on Cassius and Morgan, the two “fallen” who discovered they were more than mere angels when they reconnected in the first book. Their connection grows in this volume, which ends with more revelations that do doubt set the groundwork for the next installment of the series.

Some of the story is told from Eden’s point of view. She is the teenage daughter of the local head of Hexa, although with no magical abilities herself. Feeling tormented at home, Eden decides to run away, but that sets in motion a series of events that bring about the dramatic conclusion of this episode of the series.
