Josh is almost there. He’s been fighting with his ex-wife and her rich fiance for custody of his son, Ben. Tomorrow is the last day in court and Josh is confident the judge will find in his favor. He wants to celebrate, so Josh heads out to a gay bar hoping to find someone to scratch an itch he’s been ignoring for years. In the bar, Josh spots a man that’s everything he could want, physically. The man is clearly a sex worker and way above what Josh can afford, but he tries anyway. Much to his surprise the hooker, Ethan agrees to give Josh what he wants. Only, it turns out Ethan isn’t really a hooker and Josh has landed in the middle of a large scale operation to take down a crime cartel involved in guns, drugs and human trafficking.

“How Much For The Whole Night?” is an action-romance that, in broad strokes, reminded me of Cara Dee’s Auctioned series. They both revolve around human trafficking run by highly organized and connected criminal rings and feature ex-military heroes. The stories are very different, but they share the same vibe.

The story-telling alternates between Josh and Ethan’s point of view. Josh comes across as a very average guy. Much of his life revolves around his son. Josh would do anything for Ben, and that includes taking on the cartel Ethan is investigating. The picture we get of Josh is very believable and endearing.

Ethan is a very classic action hero. He will do almost anything to catch the bad guys. It’s the “almost” part that gets him into trouble. Josh was supposed to be just another stepping stone to get him inside the cartel, but his conscience gets the best of him. Ethan’s Achilles heel seems to be kids, which makes dealing with a case involving trafficked children especially hard.

I’ve know of this author for many years, but somehow never read one of their books. I’ll definitely be picking up the next book of the series, due to be published in May.
