David is used to attracting the attention of faeries. They keep saying things about his “shine.” Faeries are known to be fickle beings, so their attention soon moves on to other things. David knows the stereotype isn’t entirely true, but he’s been disappointed enough to guard his feelings. Besides, the one fairy David truly desires doesn’t date humans. Tulip loved a human once, but things ended badly between them. Tulip is extremely attracted to David, but his fear makes him keep his distance and hope David can find someone else. Will the two ever find a way to trust each other?

The Beings in Love books are set in a fantasy world where faeries, elves, dragons and other supposedly mythical “beings” are real and emerged from hiding in the early years of the twentieth century. Aside from the common universe, the stories don’t share any significant characters, so you can read the books in any order or skip those that don’t interest you.

“A Dandelion for Tulip” is a very slow burn romance between two slightly damaged people. It follows David, a mixed race human who has grown up around faeries. David is a doctoral student at university and seems very reserved. That can make things especially difficult to be around faeries, who have no inhibitions when it comes to talking about sex. It takes a while for us to learn all the reasons for David’s reticence to make his feelings known to Tulip.

We only get to know Tulip through David’s eyes, but we get a rich picture of the faery, nonetheless. The emotional turmoil is very real, as Tulip struggles to overcome his fear of getting too close to a human again. Watching David and Tulip dance around each other takes up most of the book, but there are still a few challenges left to overcome once they do get together.
