Review - Back Forty by BA Tortuga

My rating: * * * *

Rusty inherited his grandparents’ farm and is trying to make a go of it. It’s hard work, but he can’t afford to hire help. One day, Rusty stops to help another man, Wayne, whose truck has broken down near the farm. Wayne also grew up on a farm and is “between jobs” as a ranch hand, so he agrees to help Rusty out for room and board. The two men are attracted to each other, and eventually they give in to their desires.

Review - Cereus: Opening

My rating: * * *

This review originally appeared on the BDSM Book Reviews site. If, like me, you haven’t read the first collection of stories in this series, it seems to boil down to this: A dragon, a vampire and a werewolf walk into a bar… or whatever, and decide to open a resort for all the things that go bump in the night; sort of a Club Med for the fanged and furry. The first book contained stories covering the building of Cereus, and now this collection recounts three tales from the opening.

Review - The Rise and Fall of the Sacred Band of Thebes

My rating: * * *

This review has also appeared at Speak Its Name. The Rise and Fall of the Sacred Band of Thebes opens on that fateful day on the plain of Chaeronea, when Philip and his golden son wipe out almost all of the Sacred Band. Almost all, for although badly wounded, Nikanoras still lives, much to his shame. Alexander finds him and has his wounds tended. From that desperate opening scene, we flash back to Nikanoras’ childhood.
