Review - Dionysus in Wisconsin by E. H. Lupton
My rating:
Ulysses talks to ghosts. Well, actually, they seem to do most of the talking. He can sense the mood of buildings, too. Ulysses also tries to help those magic users whose powers have made them a little less capable of dealing with life's little challenges. It's one of these friends who first warns Ulysses that ”Dionysus is coming” just before disappearing. It's never a good thing when one of the gods returns to earth, so Ulysses manages to find a man called Dionysus, although he prefers to go by Sam.

Review - Fractured Souls by Ava Marie Salinger
My rating:
About 500 years ago, a rift opened, expelling angels, demons, and other assorted paranormal creatures who fell to Earth, where they were trapped with no memories of who they were. Among “The Fallen,” as they became known, Cassius is an outcast. He is mistrusted by both angels and demons, who aren't quite sure what he is. Only a few people on Earth have an idea of Cassius' power, and he likes to keep it that way.

My rating:
Declan is a farmer, from generations of farmers who have worked the land in his small New England town. It's never been a really easy life. Declan's wife died giving birth to their daughter, and keeping the farm going is always a challenge of coming up with new ideas. Still, Declan gets by with help from his mother and friends, such as Chester and Ivan. Those friends prove to be essential when a goblin, of all things, appears on Declan's land.

Review - The Very Troublesome Ghoulish Bizarre Boy by Mark A. Roeder
My rating:
Thad has had a rough life since being orphaned at a young age. He's been in a string of orphanages, foster homes, and juvenile detention. The experiences have hardened him and made him cynical far beyond his thirteen-year-old age. Thad is certain that nobody is nice to him unless they want something. When Angel and Kurt pick Thad up from "juvie" and announce they're adopting him, he figures they're just the latest in a long line of do-gooders or abusers looking for free labor on their farm, which is just outside of a small town that seems right out of a 1960s sit-com.

My rating:
Adam Honey is orphaned on his sixth birthday. He is sent to an orphanage where another boy, DJ, claims to have known him “forever.” The two become friends and grow up largely insulated from the problems of the outside world, where environmental disasters signal a dying planet. On coming of age, Adam and DJ leave the orphanage to make their way in the world. The pair become lovers. Adam becomes a policeman, and DJ a professor.

Review - Cold Snap by Sam Clover
My rating:
Although only 20 years old, Iddy has already lived on the streets for several years. He ran away from home when his parents decided he was not the kind of child they expected and tried to have him institutionalized. Iddy has learned to survive, but it's not safe on the streets right now. The weather has turned extremely cold, and someone, or something, is murdering homeless people. Not just killing them but tearing them apart.

Review - Primavera by Hayden Thorne
My rating:
Nineteen-year-old Adam has been having trouble with nightmares. They're so frequent and so bad that the lack of sleep is affecting his work and studies. Adam can't remember many details of the dreams but has the impression he's experiencing memories of an eighteenth-century Italian music teacher named Paolo. What does it all mean? “Primavera” is an unusual novella. I really had no idea where it was going with the parallel stories of Adam and Paolo.

Review - Bobby Ray Breaks the Universe by Rob Rosen
My rating:
In an alcoholic rage, Bobby Ray wants to kill his neighbor. The man did sleep with his husband, after all, providing the final straw that ended their stormy marriage. He has a brick in his hand, ready to do the deed when an actual angel appears to stop him. Then, a demon also shows up to egg him on. Bobby Ray is confused enough to abandon the attempt to take a life, for now.

Review - The Wish by Eden Winters
My rating:
They say ghosts are people who died with unfinished business. Byron’s rather unusual desire is to see his nephew and his partner’s nephew together. The two young men were like sons to the two older men, and it’s both their desires to see Paul and Alex get along. To say it’s not going to be easy would be an understatement. Alex is the very model of an rich entitled young man.

Review - Lime Gelatin and Other Monsters by Angel Martinez
My rating:
Kyle is a policeman in a most unusual precinct. His squad is made up of men and women with paranormal capabilities, although they’re not exactly X-men. Everyone’s powers are a little ‘off’. There’s a firestarter who can’t spark if it’s wet, and a vampire who gets sick on whole blood, just to name a few. Then we have Kyle’s new partner Vakesh, who seems unflappable, but it turns out you don’t want to make him angry.
