The author kindly provided a copy of this book in exchange for a review. Eryx is learning to live with his newfound powers as the vessel of the god Apollo. His lover Alex is helping, along with his friends and fellow Shadowguards. It will take the entire team’s efforts to stop the plans of a shadowy group trying to free one of the ancient gods, who will wipe out humanity.

Note: The books of this series are very much meant to be read in order. If you haven't read the first book, this review of the second may contain some spoilers. Jon has been given permission to visit Earth to get surgery that might fix the damage to his heart caused by the Daranii torture. His life-mate Talin will accompany him along with their guard. Jon is overjoyed at the chance to see his family, who were told he was dead.

Jeremiah has finished the move to Darwin, leaving his old life in Melbourne behind. He’s living with Tully and trying to work with the ancient equipment of the weather station he’s been saddled with. There’s not much time to settle in. A tropical cyclone is heading straight for Darwin, and it’s a big one. Jeremiah knows all about cyclones, in theory, but he’s never experienced one. Both men are in for a hair-raising experience as they ride out the storm and come to grips with their intense feelings for each other.

Darcel grew up on the streets, stealing food and doing whatever was needed when necessary. A chance encounter with Prince Alasar of Rais brings the young man to court, where he grows to love the prince, even though he knows there’s no chance the two could ever have a relationship. The kingdom is under attack by “barbarians” along its border. Seeking a peaceful solution, Darcel attempts to contact the invaders, but is captured.

Months after Ulysses kept Sam from being taken over by the god Dionysus, the two men are still sorting things out. Sam may not be a god, but he’s not entirely human any more either. The pair still have feelings for each other, but aren’t sure where it’s going. It doesn’t make things any easier when Ulysses’ ex-girlfriend shows up seeking his help with her dead husband. It all forces Sam and Ulysses to take another look at the machinations of Sam’s grandfather.

Prince Carwyn will be crowned king in just a few days. He’s not really looking forward to it. Even at twenty years old, Carwyn doesn’t feel he’s mature enough to take on the job. His stepfather, the regent, seems to be doing a far better job than Carwyn feels capable of. Carwyn would much rather be spending his time with Gareth. The two were inseparable as children, but as Carwyn took on the tasks of learning to rule after his mother died, Gareth took up the role of huntsman and went off to live in the woods.
