Mason is back home in the city but he can’t forget his experiences with Alfie and his friends back on the farm. He has a hard time reconciling what he did with the image he had of himself, and struggles to come to terms with what it means. There’s no going back, though, so he invites Alfie to visit him. If Mason thought being in the crowded big city would make Alfie moderate his reckless sexual behavior, he is sadly mistaken. Boundaries get pushed and Mason learns even more about his best friend Carl.
This sequel to Farmed Out moves the action to the city where Mason lives. It’s another sex fest as Alfie’s shameless behavior keeps pushing Mason’s boundaries. Expect some semi-public sex acts as well as a few group scenes.
Once again, the story is told entirely from Mason’s point of view. He is still conflicted over what he’s discovered about himself, but there’s no way he can stop answering the siren call of the scenes Alfie creates. Mason gets good at compartmentalizing. Once drawn in to a sexual encounter, Mason lets go and just allows things happen. The term “submissive” is never used, but it’s a label that comes to mind. The young man allows himself to be used for the other men’s pleasure, and gets a great deal of it in return. Afterwards, though, the angst takes over as Mason tries to sort out how he really feels about what happens.
Alfie is the linchpin of this book as well as the first one. The young man seems to have an infallible gaydar alongside an incredible amount of luck. There’s a stark reminder at one point about how precarious Alfie’s life is, given his very conservative parents. It makes his outlandish behavior feel even more reckless, but this isn’t really delved into. It’s a point to ponder.
Alfie’s friend Jack is the other significant character in the story. Accepting that he might have feelings for Jack is perhaps Mason’s biggest challenge. It’s easy to dismiss everything else as just sex, enjoyable but without any deeper meaning. Actually developing feelings for another man is another thing entirely. In fairness to Mason, Jack doesn’t make it easy.
