River and his alien fiance Kai have moved in together and are talking about marriage. First, though, they have to deal with the galaxy’s most feared and successful assassin, who has been hired to kill River. They’re going to need lots of luck to keep River alive, but it seems the young man has been blessed with an abundance of that. Will it be enough?

This third book of the Tentacular Tales series is perhaps the funniest yet. There are laugh out loud moments on almost every page. In between the funny conversations, there are some action-packed sequences. It’s like an action-adventure sci-fi movie mashed up with a screwball comedy.

Once again, the narration switches between River and Kai. River maintains his over the top enthusiasm as well as an optimistic outlook despite the challenges he faces. He is not without doubts but he doesn’t let them get in the way of enjoying life with his fiance and his alien friends. We’re also reminded that despite appearing to be an empty-headed nerd who only thinks about his sci-fi fantasies, River is actually very clever and resourceful.

Kai has changed a lot since we first met him. He’s definitely fallen for River’s charms and barely resists the young man’s mad-cap ideas. River has managed to tear down the walls Kai had constructed around his heart after his last relationship ended badly.
