Reid and Nolan have been boyfriends for a while, but their relationship has hit a bit of a rocky patch. Nolan is a submissive who desires a bit of pain, as well as a “little” who enjoys regressing. Reid’s past makes him wary of BDSM. He wants to give Nolan what he needs, but he doesn’t want to hurt him. When the pair meet one of the new aliens, Edward, things start to fall into place. The aliens are known for their dedication to their mate’s happiness, but can Edward handle two mates?

This third volume in The New Neighbors series takes a bit of a turn. More than one, in fact. The biggest departure is probably the menage angle, with a tentacled alien taking on two human “mates.” The previous books have described how focused the aliens get in what, for them, are always monogamous relationships. So, it’s interesting to see how Edward handles dealing with both Reid and Nolan.

The other slightly unusual aspect of this story is Nolan’s “little” kink. This is what makes both of the young men decide to seek out an alien to be Nolan’s “daddy” so he can explore that desire. Like Reid in the story, this is a kink that I don’t quite get, but it’s a common enough one that this is certainly not the first story to explore it.

These books are pure, fluffy, romantic fantasy, but the two human characters come across as very real. Reid is the lynchpin character. He has issues that keep him from indulging Nolan’s fantasies, even though he desperately wants to make his boyfriend happy. His journey feels very real and believable.
