Sammy seems to make bad choices when it comes to men. The young man likes a bit of pain play, but his latest boyfriend really just likes to beat him up. Fortunately, Sammy’s best friend Jason notices the bruises and convinces Sammy to come stay with him and his boyfriend Harry. Jason and Harry try to cheer Sammy up by taking him to a party. They invite Harry’s friend Peter along as well. Peter is in the BDSM scene and recognizes Sammy for what he is. Sammy’s sweet, eager-to-please nature draws Peter in almost instantly, but first he has to restore the young man’s confidence.

This second book in the Between Friends series takes up the story of Sammy. Jason’s best friend played a significant role in the first book, When Harry Met Jason, so you need to read that book before this one. You’ll have a much better idea of what other men have put Sammy through, and know all about Jason and Harry.

Romances involving dominants and submissives usually involve the perfect Dom meeting his perfect sub. Peter and Sammy are definitely a very good match, but they have to work at it. Sammy has had so many disastrous relationships that he, understandably, thinks it’s his fault. Peter will have to build up Sammy’s sense of self-worth so the young man can really blossom. Peter and Sammy feel like real people. Their emotions and actions are all believable.

It’s obvious from the start what the big dramatic turn of events will be. It’s just a matter of when it will happen. Until then, it’s quite a sweet story of Peter and Sammy growing closer together and building the trust that they’re kind of lifestyle requires. There's an interesting dynamic between the very kinky couple and the very vanilla Jason and Harry.
