As a university researcher, Ezra is used to moving around, changing jobs, and moving to a new town when the grants end. He’s settling into yet another new rented house in another university town. At least the five college boys in the house next door are friendly. They invite Ezra over to watch a game. It seems innocent enough and at first the guys seem like the college jocks that Ezra expects. Then one of the young men starts masturbating, right in front of the others. Judging by the way the other react, it isn’t unusual, although they agree it’s a bit rude to do in front of company. Ezra isn’t sure what to make of it. The guys seem friendly enough, but that could turn around quickly if Ezra shows too much interest. It’s just the start of a very neighborly seduction.
“A Neighborly Seduction” delivers a high heat erotic fantasy inside a solid story line. The situation Ezra finds himself in may be unbelievably over the top, but his reaction to it is entirely natural. The realistic characterization of the main character makes it easy to get into the story despite the improbable setup.
The story is told entirely from Ezra’s point of view. We know what’s he’s thinking when faced with each new meeting with his new neighbors. Ezra’s concerns about all the things that could go wrong if he makes the wrong move are entirely understandable. You might argue that he goes too far or not far enough, but you can empathize with his situation.
We get to know the college jocks through Ezra’s view of them. Each of the young man is a distinct individual. We don’t get to know them well — what they’re each studying is never revealed, for example — but as they each discover more about what they’re into, the five jocks end up at different places along the spectrum. It’s an interesting mix.
