It’s still early days for Cooper, Sawyer and their prospective master Jackson. The ever-optimistic Cooper is already all-in on the relationship, but Sawyer is being cautious. It’s just in his nature, and Jackson accepts that. He knows he is going to have to let each of the two young men go at their own speed. Jackson is sure he wants the relationship with both of them to work, even though some people might not understand or accept it. There are lots of challenges ahead for the threesome, no matter what.

This middle book of the Accidental Master series sees the relationship that started with a misunderstanding in the first book start to blossom into something serious. Relationships are complicated, even when they don’t involve three very different people with different needs, some of which are at least a little kinky. The three make a good effort to face each challenge together, and each event seems to bring them closer together.

The point of view switches between the three men in each chapter. Cooper remains the extra-extroverted one who delights in pushing boundaries. He seems to know when he’s pushing Sawyer too far. Most of the time. Cooper is also the source of many laugh-out-loud passages in the book, but proves that he can be a functioning adult when he really needs to be.

Sawyer is, in many ways, the exact opposite of Cooper. The young man is quiet, reserved and thoughtful. While Cooper is all for diving headfirst into a relationship with Jackson, Sawyer holds back. It’s not that he isn’t developing strong feelings for Jackson, or even that he doubts Jackson’s feelings for him. He just doesn’t want to risk being hurt. The kind of relationship Sawyer and Cooper are looking for with Jackson requires a lot of trust, and his past makes it difficult for Sawyer to trust people.

Jackson may be new to the whole idea of being a master to subissives, but he makes every effort to learn about the lifestyle and ensure that his two “pups” are getting what they need. D/s stories almost always feature a “perfect” dominant who seems to know exactly what his sub, or subs, need. There’s a bit of that in Jackson, but it’s clear he’s putting in the time to figure things out.
