With three older brothers, the king already has an heir and two spares, so getting married off to a foreign royal to create an alliance is the best Prince Caspian can hope for. Only, he didn’t consider that the foreign royal would be a man, even if Nikolas is a Crown Prince. Nikolas is aware of Caspian’s feckless womanizing reputation, but the benefits to his country from the marriage contract makes it a good deal, and he has ensured the agreement has all the standard clauses to get him out of the marriage if Caspian doesn’t live up to the terms, which Nikolas figures will take six months at most. When the two men finally meet, neither is what the other expects.

“The Infidelity Claus” is a swashbuckling romance set in a fantasy world of kingdoms, arranged marriages and magic. There’s definitely an element of “gay for you” in this book as well, if you like that kind of thing. It’s believably done and suits the story line. This is a roller-coaster ride as the two men escape one peril, only to face another one. There’s really not a single dramatic turning point to the story. It’s really a step-by-step process as the events work to bring the two men closer together.

The narration switches between Caspian and Nikolas. Prince Caspian is full of surprises. He’s not quite the spoiled royal brat that his reputation promises. There are also things about his past that even Caspian doesn’t know. As we learn more and more about the young prince, it’s even more surprising that he is as kind and compassionate as he is.

Nikolas is a stark contrast to Caspian. His life has been very different from Caspian’s. That’s mainly because his family isn’t insane. His father, when we meet him, is quite a hoot, though. Nikolas cuts quite a heroic figure, not only with feats of derring-do, but with the way he treats people and doesn’t put himself above those around him, even though he is the crown prince.
