It’s become clear that Mordecai ‘Cai’ is the dewisedig, the prophesied savior of the dragon riders. He and his boyfriends and followers have retaken the castle. More followers come as word of his power spreads. There are bigger battles ahead. Cai must face down the powerful council, headed by his father, that has lied to the riders for years. Then, he has to reveal the truth and figure out how to avoid the coming invasion of the fae. Can Cai manage to lead his lovers and followers to victory?
This third and final book of the DragonKin series brings the trilogy to its conclusion, although it might not be the one you expect. The story again centers on Cai, Harlan and Kirby. The three have an intense sexual relationship, but they also complement each other. Each brings a unique skill to the group, creating a synergy where they are more powerful together than they were individually.
The book is narrated entirely from Cai’s point of view. From the first two books, we know Cai is the hard-nosed leader that everyone looks up to. We also know that he likes giving in to Harlan sexually, no matter how much he might protest it otherwise. In this story, we learn just how much self-doubt lies below Cai’s hard shell that comes from being the leader that he thinks everyone expects.
It’s clear that Harlan and Kirby are the love of Cai’s life. They’re the ones that help Cai cope with the stress of being the leader. Nothing much changes in our view of Cai’s lovers. It’s the dragons who we get to know a lot better in this story. They have very distinctive personalities and especially sharp wits.
