Sammy and Peter are moving into a suburban house not far from Jason and Harry’s place. Everything seems to be going well for both couples until a ghost from the past comes back to haunt Harry. Jason and his friends try to help, but it’s hard to know what to do. The couple has weathered many difficult times, but will their love be enough to get them through one more?

This final book in the Between Friends series sees the two couples settled into life in the suburbs. That is, until events of the last book, Trial by Fire, come back to plague Harry and, by extension, Jason. For me, this story was a bit of an anticlimax. Yes, there’s drama as Harry is forced to relive some of the trauma from the last book, and Jason has to figure out how to help Harry, but it is more of a rehash than a fresh story.

The narration switches between the four men from one chapter to another. Although we get scenes between Peter and Sammy, most of the story revolves around Harry. Although he stubbornly maintains everything is “fine”, Harry has never really dealt with the trauma he was subjected to by his kidnappers. It very much fits with the strong-man image we’ve gotten of Harry from the previous books.

As Harry’s partner, Jason is faced with the frustrating challenge of how to help his lover. You can really sympathize with his frustration. He’s lucky to have a friend like Sammy to lean on. As the group’s mother hen, Sammy is always clucking over everyone, trying to make them happy, usually with food. But sometimes, it gets too much for the young man. Fortunately, he has Peter to take him out of himself, in very kinky ways.
