Cyrus is an auto mechanic with his own garage in a small town in southern Montana. He has traveled the world but is now settled down in a place that gives his wolf and bear shapes plenty of space to roam free. A good bakery next door is an added bonus. One day, a demon comes to the shop with car trouble. While working on the minor issue, Cyrus catches the scent of his fated mate. It's not the arrogant demon that bought the car in, so Cyrus leaves plenty of his own scent in the hope of leading the possible mate to him. Python is a demon from the underworld who has lived on Earth for many years. He picks up the scent of his mate instantly, but his job as an assassin might prove to be a problem in any relationship.

“Not That Kind of Demom” is the promising start of a new series featuring different kinds of shifters, along with other paranormal beings who work for an assassination bureau. This book introduces a number of characters that will probably feature in future installments while focusing on the rapidly developing relationship between Cyrus and Python.

The two men get together very quickly. The drama comes from them navigating the impact their relationship has on Python and his work. The narration switches points of view between Cyrus and Python. We meet Cyrus first. At first, he seems like a laid-back young man who appreciates nature and the quiet life. Eventually, we learn that his past was not so quiet, and his own experiences make him better able to understand what Python does.

Python conforms to what we expect from demons of the underworld. He has an eye for fine suits and fancy cars. But as we get to know him, we learn there's much more to him than your typical superficial demon. By the end, I'd almost argue that Python is perhaps the nicest of the various men you'll meet in this story.
