Josh is happy Noah and Indy have found each other, even if Noah still needs Josh’s “help” to calm down sometimes. He just wishes that he could find someone to give him what he needs, but would anyone out there be crazy enough to want Josh with his PTSD, his codependent relationship with Noah, and his need to be dominated? Police officer Conner was attracted to Josh the moment he saw him when Conner responded to the robbery of the store where Josh and Indy first met. The young army vet pushes all of Conner’s protective, dominant buttons. It takes the closeted Conner a while to work up the courage to approach Josh. He is well aware of at least some of Josh’s issues. Conner has issues of his own, although it turns out that what Conner thinks is his biggest problem, Josh considers a bonus.

This second installment of the No Shame series is a direct sequel to the first story, so you’ll need to have read the previous book to know everyone’s back story. While this book is mostly about Josh and Conner exploring their kinky compatibility, it’s also about the formation of a found family, as Noah and Indy remain an important part of Josh’s life.

We met Josh in the first book, where just about everyone assumed he and Noah were a couple. Things turned out to be much more complicated than that for the two childhood friends who served in the army together. Both men know that their relationship isn’t healthy for either of them, but it’s a real struggle to find better ways of coping with their problems. I’m no expert, but Josh’s emotional issues seemed realistically portrayed.

Conner only appeared in a few scenes in the first book, so we get to know him a lot better in this story. He isn’t your typical fantasy dominant in D/s stories. Conner doesn’t have any real experience as a dominant, but he is very good at reading Josh’s needs, especially once he gets to know the man.

I like how, even though the men are pairing up, they’re remaining important to each other, forming an extended found family. It looks like that family may expand again in the next installment of the series.
