The alien invasion didn't go at all like anyone expected from the Hollywood movies. A group of squid-like beings from a planet with a dying sun showed up one day and politely asked if they could stay. They settled among humans and began the long process of trying to integrate into human society. Cameron's alien neighbor, George, keeps flirting with him, but Cameron isn't sure the alien is serious, and his job keeps him very busy. When George makes it clear just how much he wants Cameron, the human agrees to a date. George dominates Cameron from the start, in a way that pushes all of the human's submissive buttons. George proves himself to be the kind of perfect Dom that Cameron didn't think existed, but can the two overcome the huge cultural gap to form a lasting relationship?

“My Cameron” is my first true foray into “tentacle porn,” which, yes, is really a thing. The author gives the fantasy a science fiction basis, which makes the story feel more plausible. There is a reasonable-enough-sounding explanation about hormonal changes and pheromonal responses to enable a suspension of disbelief to enjoy the dominant/submissive plot line.

Cameron tells the story in his own words. He's not your typical fictional submissive. Cameron has a good job, is self-assured, and describes himself as muscular rather than a twink. Yet, there's a side to him that wants to be cared for and even controlled, but not used. His delight at finding the seemingly perfect Dom, mixed with misgivings about the degree of control George wants, are all perfectly understandable.

Creating a plausible alien culture is always a fun literary exercise. George and his kind may be too good to be true, but, as mentioned, there's enough explanation as to why the aliens behave the way they do to make it feel plausible. The cultural gulf is also cleverly mined for humor.

However, at its core, this is an erotic D/s story. On that score, the book delivers some very hot scenes. The chemistry between Cameron and George is unmistakable as George proves over and over just how well he can read Cameron to deliver mind-blowing pleasure.
