The Misadventures of Doc and Dirk, Volume II: That Darn Muse

My rating:
Volume 2 of The Misadventures of Doc and Dirk

The author, known only as ‘Doc’ in this series, is back with more tales of his life with his muse/apprentice Dirk. Like the first book, this second volume offers up a series of vignettes depicting Doc’s growing relationship with the rather maddening, yet still fascinating Dirk. The main thrust of this set of stories seems to be demonstrating why, despite his many eccentricities, Doc continues to find his muse in Dirk.
The point is made with lots of humor, making this a mostly fun read. The one glitch in the flow is that this volume starts out with what appears to be a word-for-word repeat of the opening story of the first book, recounting how the two first met. It was unnecessary and disconcerting to start reading a book and realize you’ve already read parts of it.
Once you get past that opening faux pax the rest of the book reads well, although like the first book in the series this is a very short read.
“The Misadventures of Doc and Dirk, Volume II” is available from Amazon.
