I probably wouldn’t have picked this book up on my own, but it was so highly recommended by several people I follow on Twitter that I decided to give it a try, and I’m very happy I did. It’s a lovely story, told in full. So many books I’ve read lately have been under-developed, but “Duck!” is very well fleshed out, and written in a very easy to read style that makes it a real page-turned (although, since I no longer read dead trees, I guess that makes it a “thumb-tapper”).

What really made the book for me was the way the key turning point was handled. You’d have to be a real idiot not to guess at what would happen when Ori makes his first full shift, but the author prepares you as well to guess at what the ramifications will be, and doesn’t flinch from giving it to you. What’s more, rather than quickly rushing into a happily ever after ending, we’re treated with a real explorations of the agony the two men go through as they struggle to deal with what has happened.

Adding to the enjoyment was the fact that the ebook was properly edited, with few (like, maybe two) typos in the entire work, where many of the ebooks I’ve read lately appeared to have been generated from early unedited manuscripts.

“Duck” may be purchased from Amazon (commissionable link).
