Review - Upon This Rock by David Perry
My rating:
After a difficult year of caring for a terminally ill friend, Lee and his husband Adriano are taking a long vacation to relax. They're going to spend most of the time in Orvieto, an ancient hilltop town 100 miles north of Rome. The town has lots of character and quirky residents, but soon, the couple learns of the suicide of a local would-be priest the year before. The incident seems to have had a big effect on the town, and the parallels with Lee's own life compel him to look into the death.
Review - High Interest Dette by Lilo Quie
My rating:
Bastien helps Leo and Gabriel take care of their large broods of dragon pups. He's very good with children but isn't sure he wants pups of his own. Bastien's heats are so painful that he thinks he may just want to be sterilized. Anyway, to have pups, he would need a drake, and what drake would be interested in a half-breed dette? Stefan and Gaelin have been lovers of a sort for many years.
Review - The Uncanny Adventures of Adam Honey by Lex Baker
My rating:
Adam Honey is orphaned on his sixth birthday. He is sent to an orphanage where another boy, DJ, claims to have known him “forever.” The two become friends and grow up largely insulated from the problems of the outside world, where environmental disasters signal a dying planet. On coming of age, Adam and DJ leave the orphanage to make their way in the world. The pair become lovers. Adam becomes a policeman, and DJ a professor.

Review - Farkas by Kim Fielding
My rating:
Lee Harker works hard for his law firm in 1950s Los Angeles. He doesn't have much of a life outside of work, but it's what you do if you're a young lawyer who wants to make junior partner one day. One night, as he's working late as usual, one of the senior partners walks into his office and gives Lee a new assignment. Lee is to pack a bag and leave the next day to advise a very special client at his home.
Review - A Winter Fox by J.C. Owens
My rating:
Beware that this review contains some minor spoilers about the plot. The book is very hard to review without revealing a few things. Albion has been such a cunning general that his people, and even his enemies, have nicknamed him the “Winter Fox.” The thing is, Albion didn't want war. He tried to prevent it, but even killing his uncle, the king, proved to be too little, too late. Now, after four long years of fighting, his forces have dwindled and spend more time on the run than in battle.

Review - Murder on Monte Vista by David S. Pederson
My rating:
Mason Adler is a successful private detective in Phoenix. He often outsmarts the police to get to the bottom of suspicious deaths in the city. On a Saturday night during an unseasonably hot spring, Mason attends a birthday party thrown for him by his old schoolmate Walter. Walter's rather unusual birthday “gift” is for Mason to end the night with a wannabe actor who makes ends meet by turning tricks.

With the help of Donato's butler Jenko, Misha and Ayo have escaped the mayhem engulfing Davlova on Donato's boat. The question is, where to go? Jenko has family in Deliphine, so with no better idea, the trio head across the sea to the big city on the coast of the mainland. Before they even dock, Ayo begins acting strangely. He seems drawn to a specific spot in the city, and the more Misha tries to delay him, the stronger the urge gets.

Review - Scintilla by Elizabeth Noble
My rating:
Brandon is a scintilla, a human with the power to wield electricity. His particular skill, kept a closely guarded secret, is the ability to manipulate computers. He is the ultimate “hacker.” No firewall or complex password can stop him. Brandon's adoptive family has grown rich using his skills, even though the young man is just an employee of the company that wouldn't exist without him. Brandon is also gay and a little bit kinky.

Review - The Blacksmith's Apprentice by Bey Deckard
My rating:
Village blacksmith Eyck is a big, muscular guy, but he's really a gentle and kind-hearted man who thinks the caste system is outdated. When he sees a low-caste slave being brutally beaten, he has to intervene. He ends up buying the slave and tells the mute teen boy he's free, but the frightened teenager runs away in the night. Five years later, the young man, now grown up and calling himself Wex, show up asking to be Eyck's apprentice.
