Review - Returning Heroes by Harry F. Rey

My rating:

Ales is back from his accidental trip to another galaxy, and it seems just in time, too. Things are afoot as the galactic powers move to quell unrest on several fronts, especially the attempt of Lord Viscamon to take over the Kyleri Empire. Osvai receives unexpected support to help him regain the throne he lost, while Ales is anxious to find Turo to make him free Ales from the cage he is trapped in.

Review - Altered Tides by Harry F. Rey

My rating:

After his STAR drive is accidentally activated, Ales crash lands on an arid planet in another galaxy. The locals heal the wounds he suffered escaping from the attack that made him flee in the experimental ship, but their priests aren't sure if he is a god or a demon, responsible for the two year delay in the coming of the generational torrential rains which replenish the planet's meager water supply.

My rating:

Spoiler alert: If you haven’t read the first book in this series, this reivew might give too much away about how it ends. Daeron was raised on a ship crewed entirely by women, with his mother as captain. Now that he’s a grown man his presence is becoming problematic, even though he prefers men. When his mother accepts an assignment that she knows will put Daeron in real danger, she decides to leave the young man with the father he has never known, who is an ambassador on the Kyleri home world, Jiwani.

Review - Siege Weapons by Harry F. Rey

My rating:

Ales is the lone survivor of a planet that was destroyed by another empire because they wouldn’t submit to being enslaved by it. He now makes his living on the outer verge of the galaxy, shipping questionable cargo to unsavory places. It’s a solitary and risky life, full of long stretches of loneliness punctuated by brief hookups whenever he manages to find another human male who shares his tastes. When his boss gives Ales a job delivering “medical supplies” to the besieged planet Jansen, he knows it isn’t going to be a milk run, but he has no idea how dangerous it will really get.
