Gilliflowers, Bonds of Affection, Memoirs of a Houseboy 2008

Volume 0 of Memoirs of a Houseboy

Spoiler alerts: If you haven't read the earlier books in the series, then this review might give away some of what you'll best discover for yourself. Also, there are strong hints at what happens in this book.

It's time for another year with my favorite sometimes-but-often-not submissive houseboy. This volume covers the year of 2008 and returns to the style of the first two books, with lots of little 'diary' entries alongside longer, detailed stories of particular episodes in the topsy-turvy world of Gillibran Brown, houseboy and young pup to two masters, Dick and Shane. It isn't easy, being Gilli. The young man's struggle with epilepsy is once again front-and-center in this book, and it really does become a literal struggle as his two daddies try and force their young lover to come to terms with the limits the condition puts on how he lives his life. Achilles and the Houseboy

This further adventure of my favorite houseboy in a domestic menage with two older Doms is actually an outtake from his previous book, More Fun With Dick and Shane. With fewer digressions that the first two books, this volume squarely tackles an issue only briefly touched on in previous books, and one of the most sensitive aspects of a menage relationship: jealously.

After an hilarious introduction in which the reasoning - which only this author could conjure up - behind the title is explained, the book gets pretty serious. Gili is reminded, in very graphic fashion, that his daddies Dick and Shane share a history that he will never be a part of. They were together ten years before the stroppy young houseboy came into their lives, and their bed. Jealously rears its ugly head, and can't be easily dismissed. More...

Pup (Guards of Folsom #1)

As Tackett Austin marks the passing of another year with a drink at his BDSM club, the Guards of Folsom, he begins to look back and question some of the choices he has made. Yes, he is well-to-do and has a successful career, and he has a well-earned reputation in the club as a good Dom, with subs lining up to serve him, but as he looks around at his friends, he sees other Doms with their own collared subs, happily living the lifestyle full time. Tackett only ever plays at the club and has never had a sub of his own, even under a short term contract, but as he sees how happy his friends are, he begins to wonder what it would be like to have a long term sub of his very own, what it would be like to own a pup. The Hot Floor

Josh is a shy young man living in Bath. He was recently dumped by his boyfriend and now lives in a small apartment on the top floor of a run-down converted house. He likes his job as a glass blower, making traditional ornaments, but otherwise he has a rather empty life with few friends. As the story opens, Josh is crushing on his downstairs neighbors, Evan and Rai. The big strapping Evan from Manchester and geeky Japanese Rai make an unlikely couple. They're as different as chalk and sushi, but the two men seem devoted to each other. They also seem to enjoy a very active sex life, as Josh is reminded when he visits his friend Denise, who lives on the floor below Evan and Rai. The sounds of their lovemaking can be clearly heard in Denise's rooms. More...

Goldilocks and his Three Bears

Once upon a time there was a small town boy with long blond hair named Brian. New to Los Angeles, the young twink has a thing for older men and spends his spare time in leather bars looking for “daddy”. That's just where Brian, our Goldilocks, meets Paul, a big, tattooed biker man. Paul takes Brian home and thrills him no end. The two fall into a sort of casual relationship, but the truth is that Brian has fallen hard for Paul. So, when Paul announces that he has to go away on business for a few months, and just leaves Brian hanging, it hits the blond hard.

At loose ends, Brian is strolling down the streets one day when he meets Jim, a hippy-dippy extra furry man who makes Goldilocks feel all warm and fuzzy inside, just like a mamma bear should. Jim has a van, which is where the two men play for a while until one day he takes Brian back to the house where he lives, which turns out to be Paul's house. Brian knew Daddy had roommates, but he never met them, and he keeps the information to himself. Then one day Jim announces that he too has to go away for a while, and asks Brian to water his plants. Mastering the Ride

Josh is a young man with a powerful submissive urge. He yearns to please a master and be loved and cherished in return, but so far he's been unable to find a master that he clicks with. His latest master wanted a robot that would do only exactly what he was told and didn't expect any praise. Josh was never good enough for him and the master has just terminated their trial contract. For someone who lives to please, Josh's self esteem is at an all-time low.

Wade is what you might call a “late bloomer”. He only realized he was gay, and a Dom, in his mid-thirties. He cast aside the false life his parents had planned for him in the city and moved to the big skies of Montana to run a ranch. The only problem is that he, too, has been unable to find a submissive that he clicked with. Most guys seem to be in it for a quick thrill and aren't true submissives that live to please. More...

Review - I Once Had a Master

I Once Had a Master

“I Once Had a Master” is a collection of nine short stories by one of the masters (if you'll pardon the expression) of gay BDSM erotica. Preston passed away in 1994 and the book, originally published in 1985, is only available in print, so it's taken me a while to get my hands on it.

The collection isn't exactly what I was expecting. While the stories are almost all hard-core in one way or another, there's a lot more to them than just the kinky sex, which often plays a minor role. These tales are much more about relationships, and their ups and downs, rather than sex. Some, like the title piece, are rather melancholy in the end, while another, titled “Authenticity”, is quite sweet. In many of the stories Preston expresses a certain jadedness about the new-found acceptance of the lifestyle. In “Authenticity” he's exasperated by a pair of bottoms who treat leather as just another kind of drag and worse, treat him as just a piece of meat whose only purpose is to fulfill their fantasies. They talk about what they'll do for him, but they're really just giving him a shopping list of what they want. More...

Papa Knows Best

This review originally appeared at BDSM Book Reviews.

Photography teacher Dominick Pappas, called 'Papa' by his old friend Ben, is snapping pictures in a cafe one day when he spies the distinguished Professor Bradley Louis, a much older man that Papa is instantly infatuated with. Professor Louis has a reputation for being gruff, but despite Ben's warnings Papa tries to connect with the older man. He's rebuffed, but determined, and eventually, after several encounters, Bradley agrees to a date.

Bradley was in a life-long relationship that only ended a few years before when his partner died in a crash. He is doubtful that he will ever find love again, especially with a man twenty years younger, and then there's another problem. They go out on several dates before Brad finally confesses that he needs not just a lover, but a master. More...

The Viking in My Bed

This review first appeared at BDSM Book Reviews.

College student Bailey wakes up with a heavy weight on his shoulders, quite literally. There's a viking in his bed, who seems to know every little secret spot on Bailey's body that will make him shiver with lust. He assumes the naked Norseman is some kind of prank by his roommates. The blond bronzed god is out of his league. But the viking, Frey, insists he is there for Bailey. Frey is the Guardian and Bailey is the Guide.

It all sounds like part of the joke to Bailey, and fearing the powerful emotions Frey brings out in him, he flees to his classes. As the day wears on, strange things start to happen, which make Bailey believe that, however impossible it may seem, Frey really is a warrior from the past, or another dimension, sent to protect and help him. The two must work together to banish the demons that have been let into Bailey's world.
