This review originally appeared in slightly different form at BDSM Book Reviews.

In “The Cross and the Trinity” we witness the evolution of a BDSM menage relationship. As the book opens, Tate and Sebastian's relationship is under many of the same strains that almost any couple - gay or straight, kinky or vanilla - experiences. And like too many young couples, they don't have the maturity or life experience to help them deal with the stresses of work and other responsibilities. Although James is initially seen as a threat to the relationship, owing to his past dealings with Tate, he goes out of his way to help the two patch up their relationship, becoming the kind of mentor the younger men need.

After discovering his boyfriend in bed with another man and then finding out his employer has gone bankrupt, Jace needs to get out of his head, and for him there's no better place to do that than the local BDSM club. While watching a public scene, he is befriended by an older man who encourages him to take a turn on the stage to be flogged by the Dominant. Although not into public scenes, something about the man, Carlo, inspires confidence, and when the Dom picks Jace out of the crowd, he agrees.

Public Defender Daniel is walking on air as he enters the courtroom for another day of work. He just spent the night with a man who did things to him no other man has, and he liked it. Unfortunately, Daniel's mood is shattered when his first client turns out to be the very same man, charged with prostitution and drug offenses. Rafael says he is innocent, the victim of a jealous ex who is also a police detective, but can Daniel believe anything Rafael says?

My recent read and review of Slave in Training got me thinking about a number of things - and that's one of the big reasons I liked it. One of the aspects I liked about the book was the consensual nature of the protagonist's enslavement. He chooses life as a slave and is given several opportunities throughout the story to give up the path he has chosen. What struck me most about this was just how rare this is in most M/M Master/slave books coming out these days. It seems like far too many of these stories are really about rape and torture rather than anything else.

Nearly two years have passed since Brian, ‘Goldilocks’, moved in with his three bears to set up an unusual, somewhat polyamorous, relationship with them. In this sequel to Goldilocks and His Three Bears, the strains of ‘Daddy’ Paul's heavy travel schedule is showing on Brian, who is almost out of control, despite Momma Bear Jim's best disciplinarian efforts. It doesn't help that Jim's own sub, baby bear Scott, is also out on the road. It isn't long before Paul and Scott return home, but things don't get back to normal right away. Both Brian and Scott have issues they're trying to hide from their Doms.

In something of a second story within the book, Scott brings home a stray cowboy from one of his road trips. The boy Joshua is shy and inexperienced. He needs the guidance of an older man, but who? Paul and Jim obviously have their hands full.

Spoiler alerts: If you haven't read the earlier books in the series, then this review might give away some of what you'll best discover for yourself. Also, there are strong hints at what happens in this book.

It's time for another year with my favorite sometimes-but-often-not submissive houseboy. This volume covers the year of 2008 and returns to the style of the first two books, with lots of little 'diary' entries alongside longer, detailed stories of particular episodes in the topsy-turvy world of Gillibran Brown, houseboy and young pup to two masters, Dick and Shane. It isn't easy, being Gilli. The young man's struggle with epilepsy is once again front-and-center in this book, and it really does become a literal struggle as his two daddies try and force their young lover to come to terms with the limits the condition puts on how he lives his life.

This further adventure of my favorite houseboy in a domestic menage with two older Doms is actually an outtake from his previous book, More Fun With Dick and Shane. With fewer digressions that the first two books, this volume squarely tackles an issue only briefly touched on in previous books, and one of the most sensitive aspects of a menage relationship: jealously.

After an hilarious introduction in which the reasoning - which only this author could conjure up - behind the title is explained, the book gets pretty serious. Gili is reminded, in very graphic fashion, that his daddies Dick and Shane share a history that he will never be a part of. They were together ten years before the stroppy young houseboy came into their lives, and their bed. Jealously rears its ugly head, and can't be easily dismissed.

As Tackett Austin marks the passing of another year with a drink at his BDSM club, the Guards of Folsom, he begins to look back and question some of the choices he has made. Yes, he is well-to-do and has a successful career, and he has a well-earned reputation in the club as a good Dom, with subs lining up to serve him, but as he looks around at his friends, he sees other Doms with their own collared subs, happily living the lifestyle full time. Tackett only ever plays at the club and has never had a sub of his own, even under a short term contract, but as he sees how happy his friends are, he begins to wonder what it would be like to have a long term sub of his very own, what it would be like to own a pup.

Josh is a shy young man living in Bath. He was recently dumped by his boyfriend and now lives in a small apartment on the top floor of a run-down converted house. He likes his job as a glass blower, making traditional ornaments, but otherwise he has a rather empty life with few friends. As the story opens, Josh is crushing on his downstairs neighbors, Evan and Rai. The big strapping Evan from Manchester and geeky Japanese Rai make an unlikely couple. They're as different as chalk and sushi, but the two men seem devoted to each other. They also seem to enjoy a very active sex life, as Josh is reminded when he visits his friend Denise, who lives on the floor below Evan and Rai. The sounds of their lovemaking can be clearly heard in Denise's rooms.
