Review - Virgin Territory

Virgin Territory

The blurb for this short novelette sets it up rather nicely:

Danny may be a virgin, but that's not all he is...

When a fellow dom points Aaron in the direction of the new guy visiting in their local leather bar, there are a lot of things that draw him to Danny. One of those things is the rumor that Danny is a virgin in terms of leather, guy-on-guy action, and even in so far as his experience with girls. Add to that the fact that Danny is hot as hell and knows how to throw down a challenge, and Aaron is helpless to resist.

Danny knew as soon as he laid eyes on Aaron that he wanted him. He's not going to let a little thing like complete inexperience get in his way. He survived his best friend drunkenly admitting their virginity to the entire club on their first night there, but that doesn't mean he likes the way people have treated him, or the assumptions they've made about him since that night. A Man, A Jersey and a Tight End

Nearly two years have passed since Brian, ‘Goldilocks’, moved in with his three bears to set up an unusual, somewhat polyamorous, relationship with them. In this sequel to Goldilocks and His Three Bears, the strains of ‘Daddy’ Paul's heavy travel schedule is showing on Brian, who is almost out of control, despite Momma Bear Jim's best disciplinarian efforts. It doesn't help that Jim's own sub, baby bear Scott, is also out on the road. It isn't long before Paul and Scott return home, but things don't get back to normal right away. Both Brian and Scott have issues they're trying to hide from their Doms.

In something of a second story within the book, Scott brings home a stray cowboy from one of his road trips. The boy Joshua is shy and inexperienced. He needs the guidance of an older man, but who? Paul and Jim obviously have their hands full. More...

Goldilocks and his Three Bears

Once upon a time there was a small town boy with long blond hair named Brian. New to Los Angeles, the young twink has a thing for older men and spends his spare time in leather bars looking for “daddy”. That's just where Brian, our Goldilocks, meets Paul, a big, tattooed biker man. Paul takes Brian home and thrills him no end. The two fall into a sort of casual relationship, but the truth is that Brian has fallen hard for Paul. So, when Paul announces that he has to go away on business for a few months, and just leaves Brian hanging, it hits the blond hard.

At loose ends, Brian is strolling down the streets one day when he meets Jim, a hippy-dippy extra furry man who makes Goldilocks feel all warm and fuzzy inside, just like a mamma bear should. Jim has a van, which is where the two men play for a while until one day he takes Brian back to the house where he lives, which turns out to be Paul's house. Brian knew Daddy had roommates, but he never met them, and he keeps the information to himself. Then one day Jim announces that he too has to go away for a while, and asks Brian to water his plants. The Elegant Corpse

Roger Corso is a detective with the LAPD, and a more tightly wound individual would be hard to imagine. He could make Joe Friday look like a loose cannon and Felix Unger look like a slob (★). Part of that is just who he is, but there's also a defensive wall around the part of him that still grieves for his dead lover. He also has to be on guard about his private life. While his fellow detectives know Roger is gay, they don't know about his long association with the BDSM scene.

Roger's carefully constructed walls separating his worlds start to crumble when he returns home from a week away to find a mummified dead body laid out on his living room couch. The bodies continue to pile up, and they all have something to do with Roger and his past, although many of them are strangers to him. Only, he's at a loss to understand what message the killer is trying to send.

And then there's Sean, the much younger brother of the first victim left on Roger's sofa. He is everything that rubs Roger the wrong way: messy, brash, profane, undisciplined, and yet, Roger can't seem to get rid of the man, or get him out of his head. More...

Mastering the Ride

Josh is a young man with a powerful submissive urge. He yearns to please a master and be loved and cherished in return, but so far he's been unable to find a master that he clicks with. His latest master wanted a robot that would do only exactly what he was told and didn't expect any praise. Josh was never good enough for him and the master has just terminated their trial contract. For someone who lives to please, Josh's self esteem is at an all-time low.

Wade is what you might call a “late bloomer”. He only realized he was gay, and a Dom, in his mid-thirties. He cast aside the false life his parents had planned for him in the city and moved to the big skies of Montana to run a ranch. The only problem is that he, too, has been unable to find a submissive that he clicked with. Most guys seem to be in it for a quick thrill and aren't true submissives that live to please. More...

Review - I Once Had a Master

I Once Had a Master

“I Once Had a Master” is a collection of nine short stories by one of the masters (if you'll pardon the expression) of gay BDSM erotica. Preston passed away in 1994 and the book, originally published in 1985, is only available in print, so it's taken me a while to get my hands on it.

The collection isn't exactly what I was expecting. While the stories are almost all hard-core in one way or another, there's a lot more to them than just the kinky sex, which often plays a minor role. These tales are much more about relationships, and their ups and downs, rather than sex. Some, like the title piece, are rather melancholy in the end, while another, titled “Authenticity”, is quite sweet. In many of the stories Preston expresses a certain jadedness about the new-found acceptance of the lifestyle. In “Authenticity” he's exasperated by a pair of bottoms who treat leather as just another kind of drag and worse, treat him as just a piece of meat whose only purpose is to fulfill their fantasies. They talk about what they'll do for him, but they're really just giving him a shopping list of what they want. More...

Review - The Mark of an Alpha

The Mark of an Alpha

Bennett enjoys pleasing his master, Marsdon, although he doesn't know that's his name. He doesn't even know what the man looks like. They've been playing together, exclusively, in the BDSM club for months, and the one thing Bennett won't do is reveal his full face. He has always been blindfolded or hooded before meeting Marsdon. He also wears cologne to mask his wolf scent.

“The Mark of an Alpha” opens on their last night together in the club. They both know it's the last time they will be able to play like this. Both men are wolf shifters, and they have responsibilities to their packs. They can't continue to play these 'human' games, despite the powerful feelings they have for each other.

A few days later Bennett is awaiting the arrival of his new mate. Despite his submissive role in the BDSM club, Bennett is an alpha wolf, and it has been arranged for him to mate with the alpha of another pack, to form a new pack of their own. His mind is heavy with the responsibility he will carry as leader, but he also can't get thoughts of Marsdon out of his head. More...

The visit from the Fair comes at a bad time for Leith's father. The harvest has not been good and he feels he cannot afford the tithe, so he offers up his bastard son instead. Lord & Master

This review originally appeared in a slightly different form at BDSM Book Reviews.

Reynold, the next Duke of Wilton, is very attached to his young lover and submissive sex slave, Lord David Litchfield, but the lad is immature and becomes jealous of Reynold's friendship with Lord John. The suspicion erupts more than once in a public argument, so to avoid scandal Lord Reynold buys a commission in the army and leaves for the Americas, where revolution is brewing.

When Reynold returns three years later, his lust for David is undiminished. But Lord David has gotten himself into a very nasty situation. He ran up some gambling debts, which were bought up by a brute named Hale. To keep his father from finding out about his foolishness, David has had to agree to be Hale's sex slave for ten years. Hale is the kind of master who delights in inflicting pain and humiliation without regard as to whether or not the submissive gets any pleasure from it. More...

Games & Consequences

Volume 2 of Remastering Jerna

Games & Consequences picks up the story of Remastering Jerna. It's a couple years later, and Jerna is happy in his life, with its somewhat unusual domestic arrangements. He spends four days a week as a manager at the exclusive Winds of Paradise hotel and bordello, while those nights are spent with Ria, the highly placed police inspector who helped set him free from his wrongful conviction in the first book. Ria gives Jerna the domination and pain he needs, as well as love. His weekends are spent with his very understanding wife and two children.

Jerna's job at the hotel means he occasionally has to deal with some unpleasant situations and customers. In the opening sequence, titled "Games", we're treated to a scene where one of the hotel's women sex workers, Mawe, is unwittingly used in a plot by a man named Darr to punish his assistant and lover Pavine. Darr is a powerful government minister who abuses Pavine regularly. When Jerna learns what happened to Mawe, he asks Ria to have a word with Darr to inform him he's not welcome in the hotel. This infuriates Darr, who takes it out on Pavine. Fortunately, fearing for his life, the young man has the sense to run away.
